OPERATIONAL & SAFETY GUIDELINES

TRAILERS  •  KAYAKS  •  PEDAL BUGGIES  •  QUAD BIKE  •  CARAVANS

Trailers

  • You must request permission from the manager to use trailers
  • If you are not experienced with using trailers arrange for someone who is, to accompany you
  • Check that the trailer’s number plate and registration certificate are up to date
  • Always load and unload trailers while they are attached to the vehicle to prevent the weight of the load from tipping the trailer
  • Use the jockey wheel to manoeuver the trailer to the car
  • Double check that the trailer is properly coupled, the safety pin and chain attached and electrical plug connected
  • Check that the tail lights, brake lights and indicators work.  If any of them are not working don’t use the trailer and report the problem to the manager
  • Raise the jockey wheel
  • Make sure that the trailer load is properly secured with ropes or ratchet straps
  • Warning: Parking and police charges emanating from trailer use are the responsibility of the driver

Kayaks

  • The guidelines for trailers include kayak trailers
  • The manager has appointed a number of support workers, with the relevant experience and knowledge to supervise the use of the kayaks at designated locations
  • The names of these people and the locations are available from the manager
  • These people know how the kayaks are packed and unpacked.  You must adhere to their directions
  • Support workers who use kayaks must have well-fitting life jackets that have been approved by the manager
  • Clients using the kayaks must have their own personal life jacket that has been purchased through NWRSS that has had a crotch strap added by NWRSS, if necessary
  • Clients must have experienced floating in their life jacket in a pool before getting into a kayak
  • The paddles must be secured to the kayak by a paddle cord at all times

Boats

  • The guidelines for trailers also apply to boat trailers
  • The manager has appointed a number of support workers with the relevant experience and knowledge to use the river fishing dinghies at designated locations
  • The names of these people and the locations are available from the manager
  • Support workers who use boats must have well-fitting life jackets that have been approved by the manager
  • Clients using the boats must have their own personal life jacket that has been purchased through NWRSS that has had a crotch strap added by NWRSS, if necessary
  • Clients must have experienced floating in their life jacket in a pool before getting into a boat

Pedal Buggies

  • The guide lines for trailers also apply to pedal buggy trailers
  • The manager has appointed a number of support workers with the relevant experience and knowledge to supervise pedal buggies at designated locations
  • The names of these people and the locations are available from the manager

Quad Bike

  • The guidelines for trailers also apply to the quad bike trailer
  • The manager has appointed a number of support workers with the relevant experience and knowledge to supervise quad bike rides on designated properties
  • The names of these people and the locations are available from the manager
  • Helmets have been provided for quad bike riding and are held by the support workers who have been appointed to supervise this activity

Caravans

The manager has appointed a number of support workers with the relevant experience and knowledge to:

  • Prepare, check and couple a van in readiness for towing
  • Tow vans to locations
  • Position vans and set them up for use
  • Keep in contact with van users and respond if advice or help is required

The names of these people are available from the manager.
People staying in vans must adhere to any directions from these people.
All vans are fully self-contained.  Personal items and food are all that is needed.
When vacating a van it must be left clean and tidy with freshly made beds.
