EXCITING NEW FACILITY, PARTNERSHIP AND PROGRAM IN WYNYARD
Big hART is a national charity with 30 years of experience working on the NW coast. Big hART designs projects utilising the arts as a vehicle for connecting community, building capacity and advocating for change.
North-West Support Services and Big hART have worked closely for many years and are now excited to formalise the partnership with the mutual aim of creating opportunities for valued roles and increased social connections for the vulnerable in our community.
The value Big hART offers is the ability to create low risk opportunities for different community groups to connect and develop creative outlets for expression and artistic exploration, the ZINC project for example. Big hART will offer expertise and mentoring relationships in community development to NWSS staff to assist with future programming.
Big hART is also curating the Watershed, a program that will operate out of the new Wynyard Yacht Club. This program will offer activities and events for the community, and we will be working closely with NWSS to offer bespoke opportunities for clients, such as the recent Second Echo Ensemble tour which came to The Shed at Wynyard and Eastside Studios at Devonport as well as more public events that are designed to suit clients and support workers.
The Watershed program will be looking at duplicating activities and events at Eastside Studios where possible.
This community building partnership is new and will require patience and compromise as both organisations adapt to new ways of working towards our shared aims.
Watershed Launch Weekend
The launch of the Winter program from Watershed will be from Friday the 24th to Sunday the 26th of June with a range of interesting activities and events.
Activities that might be most appropriate for clients and support workers might be:
SATURDAY
- Print making – Saturday 11am – 3pm
- Tidal Tucker (food trucks and music on the waterfront) 12pm – 3pm
SUNDAY
· Painting and print making – 12pm – 4pm
